Blu-ray technology led to the introduction of discs with high storage capacity to meet needs following the rapid growth of the generation of high definition products, called HDTV (High Definition Television). Blu-ray records are named from blue laser technology. The blue color is given by the wavelength of the extremely reduced laser. The blue laser has a wavelength of only 405 Nm compared to that of 650 Nm of DVDs that use red laser technology. The advantage of the use of the blue laser with a small wavelength consists in the possibility of writing lower size sectors, by increasing the amount of data on the disk. The Blu-ray records offer a storage capacity from 3 to 5 times greater than the normal recordable DVD disk and allow the recording, the rewriting and reproduction of high definition video (HD).
